June 20, 2012 (San Francisco, CA) Judge Teri L. Jackson of the San Francisco Superior Court has ordered that as of July 1, 2012, the Court will rescind the San Francisco General Orders and asbestos matters filed in San Francisco will no longer be governed by those provisions.  In their place, the Court will issue a Case Management Order to manage all asbestos cases.  The purpose of the Case Management Order will be to assist the Court in the management of routine matters related to the unique qualities of asbestos cases, to ease the burdens on the Court and expedite the cases.

Although applicable in every asbestos case, the Case Management Order will be a set of guidelines, rather than hard and fast rules and may be adjusted depending on the specific facts of each case.  Judge Jackson has indicated the Case Management Order will be brief and it will comply with both the Code of Civil Procedure and the local rules of court.

We expect a Court-approved version of the Case Management Order to be provided to counsel within the next two weeks which we will summarize and forward to all of our clients and carriers.
